3 Types of Prayer for Every Christian

However, as much as prayer is important to the Christian life, we must also understand that there are different types of prayer. An understanding of this will really help us pray more effectively, and relate more intimately with God.

Prayer of Faith

The first kind of prayer we’ll talk about, is the prayer of faith, this is a simple and concise kind of prayer. An instance is mentioned in the book of James chapter 5.

Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. James 5:14-15.KJV

This prayer is straight, short and precise. It is to heal the sick. Now, contrary to many believes, the prayer of faith is not just the prayer prayed for one’s self, the prayer of faith can be prayed for others. Taking a close look at Jesus’s earthly ministry, we could see that all the prayers he ever prayed for anyone were all prayers of faith. On the other hand also, the prayer of faith is also a prayer that can simply be prayed for one’s self and God will honor it. Mark 11:24. KJV

Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Here Jesus is simply saying that whatever you desire that God should make happen for you when you have mentioned it in the place of prayer simply believe that you have it and you shall have it because you believe.

Prayer of Agreement

Another kind of prayer is the prayer of agreement. Matthew 18:19. Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my father which is in heaven. This kind of prayer talks about two people coming together to pray and ask God concerning a thing and Jesus said, it shall be done for them. This is different from the prayer of faith, because there has to be agreement between the two people if they must receive an answer from God.

Intercessory Prayer

There is also the intercessory prayer. This kind of prayer is a prayer, prayed on the behalf of others. It could be for an individual, group, leaders, or a nation. David in the psalms says, pray for the peace of Jerusalem, they shall prosper that love thee. Psalms 122:6. KJV. Paul also speaking said withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. Colossians 4:3-4. KJV.

These and many more that you will discover in your Christian walk are the kinds of prayers that must be well understood if you must enjoy your Christian adventure.
